Happy late birthday George!
George Romero, Pittsburgh’s favorite zombiemeister, turned 66 one week ago today. Happy birthday, George!
Romero has called Pittsburgh home, pretty much, since he came here to go to CMU. His first film, Night of the Living Dead, was made in these parts in 1968. He’s made other kinds of films, shooting locally, but it’s fair to note that people do love his zombie pictures. Like 1978’s Dawn of the Dead and Day of the Dead (1985) and Land of the Dead (2005) and the upcoming Diary of the Dead (plus remakes of Dawn and Night … you get the idea). Last fall Pittsburgh even saw its first Zombie Walk, blogged by Kyra Schon, one of the original Night of the Living Dead zombies.
But I admit, I’m a Pittsburgh newbie, so I’ve never met Mr. Romero. Have you been to one of his Halloween celebrations? Been in one of his movies? Share your George Romero story if you’ve got one.
