Claiming to be from Pittsburgh when that is clearly not the case

I was flipping through Maniac Magazine when I noticed an advertisment for the Pittsburgh Bottleshop, a beer joint.

You may well ask, why were you. Mac Booker, a man of impeccable tastes, reading Pittsburgh’s worst magazine? That is a fair question, but would only be asked by someone who has never seen Nightwire, a publication of such amazingly poor quality that it is a constant shock when the new issue manages to make it into the honor boxes. Apparently there is a market for a magazine full of e-mail forwards published without even cursory copy-editing and photos of moderately attractive models failing to be sexy in skimpy outfits.

Poorly executed magazine journalism aside, I am a man who likes beer, and was excited that Pittsburgh had a new place to buy “over 250 beers from around the world!” I would like to go to such a place here in my home city of Pittsburgh.

Then I read lower, and discovered that the Pittsburgh Bottleshop is not in Pittsburgh at all. It is in Bridgeville. Here is a representation of where Bridgeville is located in relation to Pittsburgh, represented by the City-County Building, seat of local government.

You may very well have some fine beers, Pittsburgh Bottleshop, and I am sure you are a boon to the fine people of Bridgeville, PA. You are not, however, in Pittsburgh, and I would appreciate your discontinuation of use of the name. It just isn’t accurate. Bridgeville is this kind of place:

Pittsburgh, on the other hand, is this kind of place:

    Duckpin bowling.

Here’s to my tie-clad duckpin bowling brethren in Bridgeville! Mr. Booker may or may not get you. Until then . . .

    What holds them up?!

    Ahem. Not so fast, Mac?

I know of at least one PGH Metblog editor who was duckpin bowling with the rest of his league while you were posting this. Granted, I have never seen them bowl wearing neckties, but this particular Friday-night group has been going since just after the second world war, so it is a possibility.
