A Little More Beauty in Bellevue
The Creative Treehouse is a new space for creative artists. Located in the heart of Bellevue, the Treehouse serves as a kind of haven for local and traveling artists who don’t mind making magic in a dry township.
But that doesn’t really matter. Artists endure.
The BYOB event last night capped a 24 hour marathon in which 30 artists plied their respective trades on 12″ x 12″ canvases. The creations were then displayed on workman cubicle walls, making them the most beautiful cubicle walls in all of Pittsburgh and environs. Carolyn wrote about this event a few days ago, and I was lucky enough to attend. Bellevue is a short distance from my humble house; as a supporter of local art (especially local art in the much-maligned suburbs), I could not not attend.
Most of the art was for sale, ranging in price from a couple hundred bucks to $20, though the emphasis of The 24 Hour Creative Marathon Reception was on community, not commerce.
The physical space is wide and tall, with high ceilings and windowed walls. It has a unique Pittsburgh charm, with pealing paint in the stairwells and well-worn hardwood floors. The lighting is soft and diffuse, and there are plenty of places to sit. In all, it’s a perfect space for what it purports to do, in bringing business and artists together to enrich each other and the Bellevue community.
The turnout was certainly higher than I expected; there were already a few dozen people there when I arrived and more were piling in when I left. Every age was represented, but the young people came out in force, partaking of the pizza and hors devours, lounging on couches and armchairs, listening to the music, enjoying the art and absorbing the sparkling, creative energy just pouring out of the walls. I have high hopes for this initiative, and seeing so many people there to support it (and maybe even buy some art) made me feel very good about its chances.
The Treehouse has memberships available, which allow you access to its growing base of hip, networked creative types in a comfortable, relaxing atmosphere of creativity and collaboration.
They’re also having a 21+ Dance Party on March 3rd. Bring your own booze to that, too.
