Going For a Swim
Nicole Kraus is a depressed woman. Like many unfortunate people suffering from a particular kind of depression, she decided to end it all by jumping off the West End Bridge. Two hours and five miles of river water later, she washed up on the shore of Neville Island, having suffered only “mild scrapes.” [edit: according to a friend of Nicole's, she also suffered a back fractured in three places - see comments, below]
It warms the cockles of my heart to read that nobody involved had the temerity to describe it as a miracle.

I’m not sure I understand exactly what you meant by your comment. I get an undertone from it that I’m not quite sure I care for. It so happens that I know Nicole, and yes she is a depressed woman who is now getting the help she needs. She also suffered more than “mild scrapes”, her back is fractured in 3 places.
But anytime that someone doesn’t die, it is a miracle, including Nicole. We have all made a wrong decision at one time or another in our lives, and it was a miracle that the decision she made to end it all was overturned by a “higher court” so to speak.
Nicole is my friend and I will stand by and support her.
Thank you
I’m very sorry about Nicole’s decision to kill herself, but I’m very happy that she survived.
1) My premature diagnosis of Nicole’s medical condition was based on the scant information in the article. I apologize. The post has been fixed to reflect this.
2) I mentioned miracles as a reference to my earlier post about a similar topic: a person who credits the intervention of a supreme being for his or her survival or success. Rather than rehash the argument here, because I’m rather sure we won’t agree about my conclusions, I’ll instead direct you to the post itself.
I wish Nicole a fast recovery and the swift, decisive defeat of her demons.
Thank you for your apology and correction to your post. The media is not always the best source for news. Thank you also for your wishes for Nicole. I don’t understand myself how some people get to the point that Nicole did.
In response to your reference of miracles, I can see your point. I read the post you directed me to and do understand your point of view if the reference was to a “higher being”. But when the word miracle is used, it is not necessarily referring to the intervention of God. The news article did not mention that it was a miracle of God that he survived, merely that it was a miracle.
There is another meaning for miracle: an event or action that is totally amazing, extraordinary, or unexpected. I think it is all in the interpretation of the reader if “God” is not specifically mentioned.
I myself am a believer in God, and I’m sure we could have a friendly banter back and forth about the subject, lol. I am also a firm believer that we are all entitled to our own opinions, ideas and feelings and no one has the right to tell us that we are wrong to think and feel as we do, so I respect how you feel.
I appreciate the fact that you did take the time to respond to my comment, eventhough your beliefs differ from mine. This world would be pretty damned boring if we all thought alike.
Thank you once again,
Linda
