What Does The Swoon Show Say About the Media In Pittsburgh?

I’ve been thinking a lot about the Swoon show at the mayor’s house in Braddock. What’s amazing is not just that it’s a great show — but that the major media here doesn’t seem to have noticed or care about it. This, can only rationally be explained in one way — reporters, art critics and writers here don’t know who she is or that she has in fact been showing her work in town for several years.
Whether one consider’s Swoon to be a genius, a pure vandal, an overrated, “flavor of the month”, art star or something else — Swoon’s ongoing engagement in the life of the city is a story and the her creation of a major installation in Braddock is a very big story. It shows the need for alternative media like this.
