David, from LA Metblogs passed along some helpful links to find inauguration day events.

• Doing a quick search here at moveon.org (by zip code) listed a whole lot of events, mostly house-type parties
• The official inauguration site also has their own listings, so you can search there as well (also by zip code)
• Word has been spreading that some Starbucks will be airing the inauguration, but I can’t seem to find an official list of which ones will.  I have a feeling most stores and news outlets will be showing it, so I don’t foresee that being an issue.
• Also, rumor has it that Krispy Kreme will be giving away free doughnuts.  With their mass exodus out of the area though, might make it a bit harder to get your free sugar.

I will be working, and unable to watch the ceremony (thank goodness for televised news programs and youtube), so no fun event for me.

The Countdown to XVIII will be back later today, so look for that in a bit.

Since I was up and working on email early this morning I decided to head to the Coffee Tree on Walnut Street in Shadyside for a cup of coffee. I had to cross quite a line of people to actually get into the Coffee Tree. At 8am this morning the new iphone 3g is going on sale and this is quite a line of people waiting to get the new iphone.

While waiting in line – the Apple employees are handing out free coffee from the coffee tree (thank you for supporting a local business) and there are 2 guys working the line with clipboards of voter registration forms (I think they are wearing Obama buttons but I am not sure).

I did a quick search of Pittsburgh bloggers – thus far the only other person blogging about the iphone is blindsquirel.org – he decided the iphone 3g isn’t for him yet.

It’s now 8:30 am and the line is still stretching as far as the Coffee Tree.

I happened to be walking down Highland Ave this morning and came across a long, long line of people waiting for Obama tickets.  According to the campaign staff people had been waiting since 9 am.  They started to distribute tickets around noon.  By 2:30 they had given away all of the tickets and there were over 400 people on the waiting list.  Barack Obama will be in Pittsburgh on Friday for a town hall meeting at soldiers and sailors in Oakland.
