This Is Not Food (ou une pipe)* . . .

Soup in a pot

. . . and I’m not Shaman. Pittsburgh blogger Sriram Bala makes great food and takes great pictures. My own cooking and photography leave something to be desired. Believe me, one of the photos I took of the above soup that I made looks like something from The Alien.

On the other hand Sri’s food images totally take me in. My pupils grow wide and I begin salivating. Have you ever seen fritters with wasabi soy mayo that looked this good?

There’s a recipe on the blog for those who want to stay home and make an afternoon snack.

All recipes are meat-free, though, thanks to Cindy Closkey, many aren’t alcohol free, like this brandy bread pudding.

While some might say that Shaman is healthy and well-lit food pr0n, please know that Sri started posting food pictures so his mother would know he was eating well. Read it with the knowledge that a message, a truly basic message, is being sent halfway around the world: “I’m doing O.K., mom.”

Due to a fire in his apartment building, Sri had to vacate his own apartment due to some water damage. I hope he’s sleeping well and still cooking up a storm. He’ll get back to posting soon, until then let a little of my random kitchen photography suffice.

    Hi Mark,

Thanks for the post, and yes, i’m on the lookout for an apartment. The present apartment folks want my rent, but don’t want to give me a habitable apartment.
